What is New
What a great trip we had to Sydney for the Specialty and Royal. Apart from me breaking down again we had a very successful week.
Boomer was Best in Show at the Championship show from the Veteran class which was a very big thrill. Once I got over the rumours a couple of weeks before the show that the judge had chosen Boomer for me in the US I was good. Boomer was chosed for me by Darren Bowey, Doug Johnson was not on the scene at that time. It is amazing how people get things wrong. I met Doug about 3 years ago for the first time at a dinner with around 20 other people he did not remember who I was. Why don't people let us win on the dogs merits for once.
Both the Levi kids won their classes and Zipper was best headed. Zippy was Intermediate in Show.
The Royal was fun again and Zippy was unfortunate as the woodchopping next door happened to drop a big log in the skip just as he was about to do his out and back which unnerved him. He was second and Mirrah ably handled by my knight in shining armour Shellie won her class.
Now to get my leg right again and back to it.
Mirrah has been bred to Boomer so she will be out for a few months.
The start of another year and lets hope this year is better than last year.
The exciting news is that Zippy has a new home and is being campaigned by Frank Mooney son of all breeds judge Bill Mooney. Frank has put a lot of work into Zippy and he is consistently winning CC's and BOB's and fighting it out with his sister Mirrah for BOB. We had to separate the brother and sister team because they were relying too much on each other. This move has proven to be very beneficial to both.
The other exciting news is that we are campaigning a Dandie Dinmont Terrier - Liza - who will be going to the USA in April. She is doing doing very well with already a Baby Puppy in Show and Minor in Group.
We had several shows with International judges and between Zippy & Mirrah we shared the winnings.
The first show in February was Ballarat with judge Mrs. E. Harding (Silverhunter Knls) awarding Zipper dog cc & R/U BOB and Mirrah Runner/up in group and Intermediate in Group.
Another busy month of showing. Unfortunately my hamstring did not handle the strain of 3 shows in a row and back to square one. Thank you to all the people who have helped me and hopefully will continue to help over the next 6 - 8 months after surgery.
Boomer and Cricket have been tracking and both have obtained their Tracking Championships. I thought Cricket would never be able to walk again let along Track through dense bush to get her final Track 7. She never ceases to amaze me with what she can do.
It has been a very busy month and a very successful one in the showring. The two AI pups continue to blitz in the showring.
Junior Kennel Club was the State Finals for the Junior handlers and our two granddaughters were competing. Louise was in the 10 - 13 age group for the first time and won her section showing Boomer. Emily was the first time in the Seniors and came 2nd to the eventual winner; ashe was handling an Akita. Louise finised up R/up to the winner which was quite an achievement for just 10 years old.
The same day Boomer gained his Supreme Championship title and Mirrah was BOB, Best Exhibit in Group, Junior in Group, R/Up to Best in Show & Junior in Show.
The next day we went to Shepparton where Cricket was shown, the first time since she was paralised in the back legs in December. She got the bitch CC and gained her Supreme Championship title. We retired her after this show. Boomer was BOB, Best Exhibit in Group, Open in Group. & R/Up to Best in Show. An amazing weekend.
It is with deep sadness that we have had to say goodbye to Val Speck one of Crickets breeders. Val died on Saturday 7th July from a severe brain bleed. She will always be in my thoughts as a wonderful lady who lived life to the fullest and never wanted any fuss with anything. RIP Val, keeping Dash company.
Mirrah wins Best in Group and Junior in Group showing to Mrs. J. Butterfield (SA) a beautiful win for her just 12 months old.
Cricket & Boomer went tracking to Bendigo and came home with their TDX title. We were very proud to get two passes in the one day. Thanks to Brett Coventry and all his hard work with the dogs, it sure paid off.
Mirrah Ch. Grauhund Justa Miracle AI (Imp NZ) gains her Championship title at 11 months of age.
The two AI pups continue to win most weekends. Zipper has now had 8 Puppy in Groups and adding up the points. Mirrah is also doing well and almost has her title. I drove to Sydney Royal with the help of my granddaughter Emily who kept me entertained on the way. We stopped at Gundagai on the way so I could have a good nights sleep and then made our way to Di Horners house. It is always an enjoyable time staying there and the dogs love it. The Championship show was very busy and Boomer was the best achiever with winning Dog Challenge. This was a thrill for me because I was unable to show Cricket yet. Zipper managed a place but was having an off week and didn't really behave. Mirrah was handled by Emily and she decided to have a flip attack and wouldn't let the judge go over here, she has never done this before so don't know what got into her. She has only ever been handled by me so don't know if that had anything to do with it. The Royal the next day was not very exciting for us but we got placed with everything.
Back home again we have been to some local shows and picked up some more challenges and Class in Groups. I am off to Caboolture the last weekend in the month judging Gundogs at their show. I have the biggest entry of 118 Gundogs so looking forward to that.
The two youngsters continue to blitz in the ring. So far this month from 3 shows they have won between them 3 x CC's each, 1 puppy in group & 2 Junior in groups. 4 more shows this month then we will be heading off to Sydney for the Royal & Chanp show.
We have had a great start to February .The weather has been kind to us and no heat for the shows thank goodness. We have had great success so far this month with 2 Championship titles on the one day which makes 50 for Grauhund Kennels. Zipper our young AI dog has excelled in the showring with 13 class in group & in show wins to his credit, he is an exception to the rule gaining his title at 8 months of age a feat very rarely seen at this age. Heidi gained her title at 12 months of age also winning many class in group & in show wins. She is a lovely outgoinging pretty girl who is fun to show.
Our lovely Mellow has been AI'd to Levi semen so the waiting game starts.
Classic Dog Show
Judge Mrs. R. Price
Zipper wins Best Exhibit in Group & Minor Puppy in Group at 8 months of age, his sister Mirrah was reserve challenge. Heidi won the bitch challenge, & R/up best of breed. A great day all round.
Cricket has been invited to compete in the Show Dog of the Year contest, to qualify for this she had to win a Best in Show at an All breeds Show or Specialty Show, she has done both.
My granddaughter is now showing Zipper & picked up a challenge & Minor in group at the Aust Day show with a Norwegian judge.
Mellow has come into season so will start her progesterone tests this weekend. She will be AI'd with Levi's semen this will be a very exciting litter.
13th, 14th, 15th January.
We had 3 shows this last weekend which proved to be very successful. Zipper picked up 2 challenges & 1 minor puppy in group, Mirra 1 BOB & 1 puppy in group & Heidi with 2 challenges, 1 BOB. We are having a lot of fun with the AI babies who are looking lovely.
Exciting news we have been notified by Dogz Online that Cricket has won the #1 Weimaraner Nationally and Best of breed and finished up #6 Gundog in the state. Not a bad effort when we didn't even try. Also Heidi finished up #6 in the Rising Star competitioon.
A great start to the year at the Historic Maldon Kennel Club show with Zipper going BOB and Minor Puppy in Group, his sister Mirrah took the bitch CC and R/Up BOB. Heidi was Puppy in Group so a great start.
Another year begins with the temperature soaring into the 40's, too hot for dog shows. We stayed home in the cool house with the dogs enjoying the airconditioner.
The young AI puppies are already hitting their straps and I am sure we will have a lot of fun with them this year. Our young bitch Heidi is over half way to her title picking up multiple class in group wins on the way, so will continue to enjoy showing her.
We have some exciting plans in the next 2 years so keep tunes.
The weather is heating up so our showing will be limited depending if it is too hot or not. We have had a lot of success in the last 6 months with multiple Best in Groups, Runner/up in Groups, Class in Group & In Show wins and of course another Best in Show All breeds for our beautiful Cricket who has won three Specialty BIS's & two R/Up's this year. We have not travelled very much this year because of the price of diesel but mainly enter shows close to home or the dog centres. We have been to Sydney for the Royal & specialties and Adelaide for their specialties.
We did enter the popular New Years Eve & New Years day shows but with the temperature in the high 30's we did not go.
Sharon, Jeanene & I ventured off to Sydney for the Royal Show & Specialty. The specialty was held on Good Friday and we didn't do any good at that show. The next day was the Royal show. The entry was 64 with the usual few scratchings. It was a wet day but the Sydney dog show area has a huge hocker over the ring so we didn't get wet. Boomer got the dog challenge which was very exciting. Cricket then got the bitch challenge and best of breed from a very strong line up of bitches. We had to return on the Monday for General Specials and I was thrilled to be shortlisted to the final 8. Then the placings finished up with Cricket getting Group 2nd which is R/Up in group. It was a very exciting day.
Only one show left this month then off to the US for the Nationals. I am showing our new baby Heidi (Grauhund Merry Poppins) for the first time at this show, should be interesting she is a little livewire.
I have not been around the showring much in the last 4 months due to having a knee replacement, we mainly show at the city shows these days we don't travel far.
We entered a few shows in March the first being Metropolitan Kennel Club with judge Mrs. Liat Smith (SA) Cricket went BIG & Aust. bred in group and Boomer R/Up BOB.
The next show was Eltham & Dist. KC. with Judge Colin Hamilton. Cricket was again BOB.
The next day was Sovereign City Kennel Club with judge Mrs. Kay Sneath who gave Cricket BIG and Aust. bred in group and she showed to Mrs. B, Marsh in General specials and went Aust. Bred in show.
What an amazing month we have had.
Weimaraner Club of Victoria Championship show held 19th September Cricket went Best in Show, 2 years in a row. Then we had the Royal the next day and Boomer went
BOB and was shorlisted in the final 8 for the group.
We headed off to Sydney for their specialty which was held on the 10th October and did we clean up big time.
Bandit was the naughty one and managed to get 2nd in the baby dog class even though he couldn't keep his four feet on the ground and at one stage he was up my skirt. Boomer won the open dog class and had to work hard for it doing about 7 laps of the ring by the time the class was awarded. Alvin got the dog cc and Junior in show. Then in the bitches I showed the Boomer daughter of Debbie Clarksons and won the Puppy class, then showed Di Horners Junior bitch and won that, then Cricket won her class and finished up going Best in Show competing against the beautiful Longhair Meemo from Sth Aust. two beautiful bitches.
It was an emotional presentation with Simon Mills the judge presenting the silver dog that Nicky (Gr. Ch. Grauhund Nikkitah AI) had one many years ago for going BIS, I will treasure that forever.
The next big weekend is the Gundog Club, Vic Womens and Sunbury weekend then I am off to NZ to judge the Irish Setter Specialty show, One of the back to back 30th Anniversary Weimaraner Championship shows and the Gundog Club show. It will be a big weekend. We then head down South to do some sightseeing.
4TH WEIMARANER NATIONAL SHOW
We ventured off to the Weimaraner National show in Adelaide with a team of 7 dogs. It was a great show but the judging was very different. The German judge just wanted the dogs to be natural and walked which confused a lot of the dogs.
1st Minor Puppy dog - very promising Grauhund Im Troubled by u - Alvin
Boomer - Gr. Ch. Amer Ch. Nanis Sovereign Cross Check TD JH (Imp USA) graded Very Good
1st Minor Puppy Bitch & Minor Puppy in Show - Grauhund Im fullov trouble - Ripple - very promising
Mellow - Ch. Divani Pack up Yr Troubles (AI) - graded Very Good
5th Open Bitch - Gr. Ch. Divani New Kidn Town TD - Cricket - graded Excellent
2nd De-sexed sweepstakes - Ch. Grauhund Goldfinger - James
We had a great time catching up with people we had not seen for many years.
Its happened at last we have a new property - Grauhund Park will now be located in Riddells Creek from the 16th June.
We left for our long trek to Sydney Royal and the specialty show and arrived safe and very tired.
Good Friday was the specialty show with Mrs Susan Rieise from the US judging. Shellie & Emily came and handled the dogs for me which was great. Alvin got 2nd in Puppy dog, Ripple got 3rd in Minor Puppy bitch and Cricket won the open bitch class. Boomer got the dog CC and Best of Breed and then beat the Longhair for Best in Show. It was a very exciting day. We won the beautiful silver dog on a stand which is something to treasure.
Saturday we had a relaxing day except that Cricket decided to go hunting and chased a hare for some time through the paspalum - that was a nightmare, she looked like a porcupine with the paspalum glue on her so we had to buy Eucalyptus oil to get it off and then had to bath her again. She had fun.
Sunday was the Royal and after the car refusing to start we got there with 5 minutes to spare before they closed the gate. It was a nightmare trying to get 5 dogs and 3 trolleys into the show. Boomer managed Reserve CC Mellow 2nd Intermediate and Cricket 3rd Open bitch. We had a great day even though we didn't do as well as usual then Jeanene got lost in the Homebush area for an hour after having trouble with the car again. A new car in in the pipeline.
Our hilarious attempt to get a photo of all the dogs for the Searching for the Silver grey book. Ripple got the sack and ended up in the trailer so she missed out.
We haven't had any shows for a few weeks because I have to rely on handlers and I can only go to the shows that Shellie goes to so that is a bit restricting. Hopefully we will be back in the swing again next weekend.
I went to the specialist on Monday which was a follow up after my hamstring surgery and I have to take it easy for 6 weeks then the physio starts and hydrotherapy work. It is very frustrating not being able to do things. I cannot believe I have been walking around with my hamstring more than 50% off the bone. It is a terrible operation and very difficult to sit down. Things can only get better each day.
Thank you to everyone who has been helping me.
SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY
I have got the sack from showing my dogs according to my two daughters. Saturday Shellie showed Cricket and got RU in Group and Aust. Bred in Group and Sunday she got the breed with Cricket but had to give her to Aly Aslin to show in specials because it clashed with Group 7 specials and Shellie had got BOB with Pebbles. Shellie got the Group and Aly got the Group with Cricket. Over in the Group 1 ring Jacqui was busy getting the Group with Oliver so a threesome once again. Jacqui went BIS with Oliver a great weekend.
Unfortunately after breaking down at the Weimaraner Champ show in September I have been unable to run and would like to thank all of the people who have helped me show my dogs. I have torn the hamstring 90% off the bone and will be having it stitched back sometime this month. I will be out of action for awhile but my dogs will still be shown thanks to my wonderful family and friends.
We had a very big weekend with the Gundog Club Show on Saturday 31st October. Judge: was Mr. O. Nielsen (Can) and Mr. S, Hollings from Gunalt Weimaraners in England did BIS. Cricket was BOB, Boomer Dog CC and R/U BOB. Cricket went Aust. Bred in Show.
The next show was Victorian Womens Dog Club - Patsy Hollings did the breed and Boomer was BOB and his son Kraftighund Moss R/U Bob, Cricket was bitch CC. Nothing in group.
The last show was Sunbury with a massive entry of 2,600 dogs. The judge was Stephen Hollings doing the breed and Patsy doing the group. Boomer was BOB again and his son R/U BOB - Cricket was bitch CC.
Cricket and Boomer went tracking in the weekend and Cricket has gained her 3 passes for her TD in three trials, Boomer has his second pass. Both were graded Very Good. Thank you to Brett Coventry who did the handling. Cross fingers for the next trial with Boomer.
Mellow has Puppies due 2nd September.

Since our wonderful weekend in Canberra we have continued to blitz the showring with Cricket. From 4 shows she has won - 2 BIG's, 1 BIS. 1 R/UIS. 4 ABIG & 3 ABIS wins a fantastic result. The Gundog group in Victoria is very strong with some top BIS winning dogs, to get through for BIS is even harder. Sat 4th April Cricket beat the top winning Terrier in the state who has had 3 BIS's in a row quite an achievement for a Weimaraner and especially a bitch. Keep up the good work Cricket.

UPDATE ON FIRES IN VICTORIA
FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE RUNG, OR EMAILED ME TO SEE IF WE ARE OKAY. AT THE MOMENT WE ARE OKAY BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE WIND DIRECTION. IT IS A VERY TENSE AND EMOTIONAL TIME FOR EVERYONE IN THIS STATE AND OUR THOUGHTS ARE OUT TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES AND ANIMALS.
SPECIAL THOUGHTS GO TO THE FAMILY OF ONE OF OUR DOGGY FAMILIES WITH ALASKAN MALAMUTES. ALL FOUR MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY AND ALL THE ANIMALS PERISHED IN THE FIRES. THERE ARE MANY WHO HAVE LOST HOMES AND DOGS IN THE FIRES AND EVERYONE IS RALLYING TO HELP THOSE IN NEED.
AT THE MOMENT WE ARE SAFE BUT THAT COULD CHANGE.
Another good weekend at Kyneton and the Park with two more BOB's and R/U in Group for Cricket.

Cricket won Best in Show at the Gundog Club with an entry of 408 and Boomer got the Dog CC. She then went on to win BOB at the other two big shows. Sunbury is the biggest show apart from the Royal and drew an entry of 2,200 dogs. At Vic Womens and Sunbury Cricket also won Aust. Bred in Group.
We went to the Geelong Royal Agricultural Show on Friday 17th & Saturday 18th October. The first show Cricket got Best in Group, Aust. Bred in Group, Runner/Up to Best in Show Aust. GENERAL SPECIALS DAY:
First group judged was the Gundog Group and Cricket made the cut of 8. The judge took forever to make here decision and the GSP went 4th. the Pointer 3rd, Cricket 2nd and the Irish Setter 1st.
The judge told me when I was having my photo taken that she couldn't make up her mind between the Irish and the Wei for her 1st in group. So close.
Next was the Toy Group and Jacqui went in with her Cavalier puppy and she got PUPPY IN GROUP. Straight in with Josh for the Group and she made the cut. Then the placings were made and she got 2nd in group too. Very exciting.
The second last group to be judged was the Non-Sporting Group and Shellie was in with Pebbles. The cut was made and Pebbles was in. The big worry was the toy poodle who was gorgeous. The winners were named and the toy poodle was 2nd, Shellie got such a shock that she dropped her bait because we all thought he would win. The announcement came and Pebbles was the No 1 dog. It was a very exciting moment.
There was a break after the completion of judging for the handlers and I had to settle Emily down who was having an Emily moment. We had had several training sessions throughout the week and she was handling well. She handled Lana who is not an easy dog to show and did an excellent job. She really had to work hard with her. Apart from her flicking head, trying to fix her shoulder strap and pulling down her knickers she won the handlers. I was besides myself, the hard work had paid off. I am very proud of her.
Then came General Specials. After each dog had been judged the judge Ramon Podesta (Chile) made his announcement from 4th place to 1st. 4th was the Irish Setter, 3rd was the Pug, 2nd the Sheltie and 1st and Best in Show the Dalmatian. The crown went crazy and so did we.
